Terms of Use

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of the CanTalk mobile application. By downloading or using CanTalk, you agree to these Terms.

1. The Service

CanTalk provides Cantonese learning tools, including lessons, flashcards, quizzes, phrasebook features, text-to-speech, and English-to-Cantonese translation utilities. Features may change as we improve the product.

2. Eligibility

You must be able to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction and comply with Apple’s App Store terms. If you use CanTalk on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to accept these Terms.

3. License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use CanTalk for personal, non-commercial learning on devices you own or control, subject to these Terms and App Store rules.

4. Accounts, Purchases, and Virtual Items

• Coin balances and membership status are stored for app functionality and may be tied to your device and Apple account purchases.
• Coins and similar virtual items have no cash value, are not redeemable for money, and are licensed—not sold—to you.
• All payments are processed by Apple. Pricing shown in the app may vary by storefront and tax.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Misuse translation, speech, or learning features for unlawful or harmful purposes.
• Attempt to reverse engineer, disrupt, or abuse the app or related services.
• Interfere with purchase validation, restore flows, or entitlement checks.
• Copy or redistribute app content except as allowed for personal study.

6. Content and Accuracy

Translations, Jyutping, examples, and generated text are provided for learning assistance. They may be incomplete or imperfect. Do not rely on CanTalk as the sole source for professional, medical, legal, or safety-critical communication.

7. Third-Party Services

CanTalk may depend on third-party networks and Apple platforms. Their availability and policies are outside our control. Your use of those services may be subject to additional terms.

8. Intellectual Property

CanTalk, its design, trademarks, and original content are owned by us or our licensors. Third-party licensed materials (for example romanization data) remain subject to their respective licenses.

9. Disclaimer

CanTalk is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or business arising from your use of CanTalk. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us for the app features (if any) in the twelve months before the claim, or zero if you paid nothing directly to us outside Apple.

11. Termination

We may suspend or stop providing features if you violate these Terms or if required for legal or operational reasons. You may stop using CanTalk at any time by deleting the app.

12. Changes

We may update these Terms. If you continue using CanTalk after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.
